MY PHILOSOPHY AND HOW I WORK

I see therapy as a safe space where you can work through whatever is causing you stress or distress in your life. Therapy can allow you to explore your thoughts, emotions and behaviours, learn different ways of coping, process grief and traumatic experiences, improve relationship dynamics, and learn to manage psychological and physical symptoms.

I work in a down-to-earth, friendly, and professional manner. I try to help my clients feel as comfortable as possible discussing their difficulties with me, and draw on both my full range of training and professional experience when working with someone.

My aim working with any client is to help them to achieve whatever goals they come to therapy with - through improving understanding of self and patterns of thought and behaviour, learning new ways to communicate and manage emotions, through to specialised work in coping with mental and physical health symptoms. I use CBT, ACT, DBT, and EMDR therapies when working with clients.

GET TO KNOW ME

Hi! I'm Bex! I live on the North Shore with my partner and our toddler. I retrained as a psychologist in my late 20's and early 30's after a career in music and health food retail management. Slight change of trajectory! I became a psychologist because I love helping people to improve their lives and wellbeing, and making sense of what is going on for someone (putting together the puzzle pieces). I'm really down to earth in my practice which you'll notice in the way I communicate - I think it's really important that we are all on the same level (I just have some extra training and knowledge that might be helpful).

My work experience as a psychologist includes DHB roles in both adolescent and adult mental health (early intervention) and physical health (women's health and pain teams), and private work with children and adolescents. I have experience working with highly complex presentations and significant trauma. I also worked in the addictions sector prior to training as a psychologist.

FAQS

Home: FAQ

Each session is 50 minutes long.

Yes. For students with valid/current ID and WINZ beneficiaries I can offer a slightly reduced rate - please contact me to discuss.

The first appointment is an assessment session. I will ask questions to help understand what is going on for you currently, what in your past might be contributing to the issue, and what you would like to get out of the therapy process. The last few minutes of the appointment will be spent making a plan together. The therapy process starts from the second appointment.

You can cancel or reschedule your appointment free of charge as long as you give at least 24 hours notice. Cancellation within 24 hours will incur a 50% charge, and a no-show will incur full charge for the appointment. If you are unwell but would still like to have your appointment I can convert to online appointment with 24 hours notice (timing may change slightly). I am unable to extend appointments if you are running late due to the impact this has on other appointments.

I charge $190 incl GST per session. This is payable either by eftpos (I take credit cards) or bank transfer. I can invoice in certain circumstances, please enquire if you require invoicing. I do have student rates and have a very limited number of sliding scale spots.

At Orange level I see clients face to face, with mask use during the appointment.

Yes! I am an Easy Claim Partner with Southern Cross. This means that if your plan covers clinical psychology, I put through the claim for you and you don't need to do anything (unless there's a co-pay as part of your plan). You can send me your customer number before we start working together and I can check to make sure you are covered. Please not I am NOT an affiliated provider.

I see adults from age 18 upwards (no upper limit). I no longer see adolescents in private practice unless they are coming to see me in regards to chronic pain/chronic illness/pelvic pain. Please contact The Child Psychology Service or BeChange for child and adolescent referrals.

I am fully vaccinated. For online or outdoor appointments, I do not require you to be vaccinated. Once we are able to work face to face in the office again, I will require clients to be fully vaccinated if they would like to use this option. For unvaccinated clients, I will continue to offer online appointments.

Yes! As of September 2022 I am a registered Sensitive Claims therapist. Please let me know when you contact me if this will be something you are needing to access.
